Wake Me Up When...Christmas is over! Only joking. I love Christmas but with 7 days to go I've done no shopping, been to no parties and haven't had a single sip of mulled wine or even a bite of a mince pie. Why you may ask?! Are you insane? Maison Molly Bakes has been working non-stop for the last 3 weeks. I've had 3 amazing assistants helping me including the super duper talented Edd Kimber who baking fans may know as the winner of BBC2's Great British Bake Off.. They've kept me sane and made my 14-16 hour days more fun!
December kicked off with an order for 1400 Christmas Pudding cake pops for Blackberry events. Then a couple of cupcake orders for Christmas parties at Beach Blanket Babylon. Keeping things Shoreditch we then did a full range of sweet treats for a Christmas party at LoungeLover. Brownies, cupcakes, cake pops and whoopie pies were the order of the day - Molly Bakes isn't just about cake pops!
I swapped cake for couture with shoe designer Cleo B when they had an instore party for their clients. I haven't even had time to pick my shoes yet but I can't wait to get down to the boutique next week when the kitchen closes and luckily they're just around the corner in Belgravia! I'll definitely blog my new beauties when I have selected them.
This week has been all about our clients sending gifts to their clients. What could be better than our beautiful cake truffles (also known as cake balls but I prefer to call them truffles) in little boxes? I also managed to fit in a cupcake decorating session for 80 Lipsy staff as part of the office party at their HQ. There was a prize for the best cupcake aswell as cocktail mixologists, a fish & chip van, a casino, a wii room and they even made special Lipsy aprons for the decorators! I was made to wear a pink Santa hat which I slipped into my handbag at the end of the night (sorry I had to!) as well as being given a new job title - cupcakeologist. What do y'all think? Nah!
In amongst all this and countless other little orders we made a rather large amount of logo cake pops for the launch party of the new Hed Kandi Bar in Clapham but my favourite thing we did this week just had to be the Christmas Tree Wedding Cake which Edd helped me assemble. It took us 4 hours just to put it together but every second was worth it. I designed this thing with a very rough sketch back in November when the lovely bride Suzanne told me she was having a Christmas wedding in a Brighton barn and wanted something quirky. I couldn't wait to see the finished product and was not disappointed! Making it I felt like a kid on Christmas day waiting to open their presents. Mega excitement.
More December cake porn coming soon! Until then enjoy the festivities, eat, drink and be merry! Next week is a little quieter with all the offices closing so I can finally do my last minute Christmas shopping!
